Company Overview
Toyota operates through a total of 569 consolidated subsidiaries along with 168 associates and joint ventures worldwide. In FY 2023, the company sold 8,822 vehicles on a consolidated scale. It sells its vehicles in approximately 200 countries worldwide. Toyota plans to expand its line-up of electric vehicles over the coming years and create new business models around it.
Since establishing its battery R&D division in 2008, the company has invested heavily in advancing innovation in SSBs and other next-generation battery technologies. In June 2020, it developed a vehicle with all-solid state batteries to conduct test runs and derive performance-related data. Based on the continuous R&D and innovation since this initial testing, the company now aims to apply SSBs in EVs between 2027 and 2028 practically. Since starting the R&D efforts, the automaker has secured over 1,000 patents for SSB technology. In September 2023, Toyota revealed its Battery Technology Roadmap, which outlines its ambition for advancements in battery technology with four next-generation battery systems consisting of solid and liquid electrolyte variants.
