Olympus Corp.
Company Snapshot
Company Overview
Olympus Corp. is a global medtech company. In recent years, the company has taken several strategic decisions to cement its position as a major player in the medtech industry. In April 2022, Olympus separated its Scientific Solutions business to form a wholly owned subsidiary called Evident Corp. In January 2021, it transferred its imaging business to Japan Industrial Partners Inc. With completion of the transfer, OM Digital Solutions Corp. took over the imaging business from Olympus. With these divestures (imaging and scientific solutions businesses), it becomes a pure medtech player.
Olympus Corp. is a leader in the endoscopy equipment market, offering medical endoscopes, surgical endoscopes and endotherapy devices. It also offers a complete set of complementary solutions and services for infection prevention, repair and service.
The company reports its business in three segments:
The Endoscopic Solutions portfolio includes endoscopes, laparoscopes and video imaging systems, as well as system integration solutions and medical services.
The Therapeutic Solutions portfolio includes an array of surgical energy devices and a wide range of instruments to help prevent, detect and treat disease.
In other businesses, the Olympus Group conducts R&D and exploratory activities for new businesses in addition to engaging in R&D, manufacturing and sales of biomedical materials (e.g., synthetic bone filler, orthopedic equipment).
