1758 Johann Rudolf Geigy-Gemuseus has founded J.R. Geigy, a trading company to deal with chemicals, materials, drugs, and dyes in Basel, Switzerland.
1859 Alexander Clavel have started the production of fuchsine, a synthetic dye in his silk dyeing factory in Switzerland.
1886 Dr. Alfred Kern and Edouard Sandoz has founded the Kern & Sandoz, a chemical company in Basel, Switzerland. 
1900 Ciba has started the production of its first pharmaceutical substances: Vioform and Salen, an antiseptic and antirheumatic agent. 
1917 Prof. Arthur Stoll has developed a pharmaceutical department to start his research at Sandoz.
1970 Geigy and CIBA has been merged together to form CIBA-GEIGY.
1996 The merger between Sandoz and Ciba-Geigy formed Novartis AG. 
2002 Novartis AG unifies and strengthens its global research network by founding the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in the U.S.
2019 Alcon becomes a standalone trading company while Novartis AG strengthens its focus towards geenric and advanced medicines.
