1802 E.I. du Pont founded the company on the shores of the Brandywine Creek, U.S.
1917 DuPont acquired the Harrison Brothers Paint Company and started selling lithopone and lithopone paints.
1924 DuPont formed a joint venture with the Pathé Cinema Société Anonyme of Paris, the DuPont-Pathé Film Manufacturing Corporation. By the late 1920s, the company produced 35mm positive movie films and sold about $4 million annually.
1962 The company commercialized Lycra, a segmented polyurethane.
1967 DuPont launched Nomex in both woven and nonwoven forms. Offered in paper, felt, fabric, and fiber forms, Nomex served a variety of industries but was primarily used in firefighters’ apparel.
1970 The company purchased the instruments division of Bell & Howell and moved into electronic biomedical instruments.
2003 DuPont and the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory formed a joint research agreement to develop the world's first integrated "bio-refinery" that uses corn or other renewable resources to produce valuable fuels and value-added chemicals.
2004 DuPont and Koch Industries, Inc. reached a definitive agreement to sell INVISTA, formerly DuPont Textiles & Interiors, to Koch's subsidiaries for $4.4 billion in cash.
2013 DuPont completed the sale of its coatings business to the private equity firm The Carlyle Group. Carlyle renamed the company to Axalta Coating Systems.
2015 DuPont separated its Performance Chemicals segment through the spin-off of The Chemours Company. Chemours began to operate as an independent, publicly traded company.
2021 DuPont completed separating its Nutrition & Biosciences (N&B) business, and as part of the transaction, N&B merged with IFF.
2022 DuPont acquired Laird Performance Materials, a high-performance electromagnetic shielding and thermal management solutions manufacturer.
2023 DuPont opened a new Adhesives manufacturing facility in Zhangjiagang (ZJG), East China. The new plant will manufacture adhesives for transportation customers.
